Kopari Sun Shield Body Glow SPF 50 Review With Photos

Growing up not far from the Jersey Shore, I have a lot — and I mean a lot — of vivid memories of me attempting to rub in heavy, greasy, chalky-white sunscreens into my skin (unsuccessfully, I’ll add). The unpleasant experience often led to me, unfortunately, skipping out on using any sun protection at all. But luckily, gone are the days when you had to begrudgingly apply sunscreen before hitting the beach or lounging by the pool. Now, with so many amazing formulas on the market, for both face and body, there’s really no reason to keep using an SPF that you don’t enjoy applying. After all, the best sunscreen is one you’ll actually use. And if you’ve yet to discover your match made in heaven, allow me to introduce you to the Kopari Sun Shield Body Glow SPF 50 ($39).

Ever since Kopari came out with this body SPF in March 2022, it’s quickly climbed its way to the top of our list of best body sunscreens. And we’re not the only ones — the formula was so popular that a year later, in February 2023, Kopari came out with the equally amazing Rose Gold Sun Shield SPF 45.

Ahead, I go into more detail on why I love this sunscreen for summertime and beyond.

About the Kopari Sun Shield Body Glow SPF 50

  • It’s a chemical sunscreen containing ingredients avobenzone, homosalate, and octocrylene, as well as the mineral sunscreen ingredient titanium dioxide.
  • It’s a lightweight, clear gel formula with a glowy finish thanks to mica.
  • It’s water resistant for 40 minutes and dries quickly.
  • It has a light but sweet coconut-milk scent.
  • The formula is vegan and cruelty-free.
  • Macadamia, hibiscus, coconut, and avocado oil, as well as vitamin E, are packed into the hydrating formula.

What I Like About the Kopari Sun Shield Body Glow SPF 50

The beauty editor in me shudders at the thought of skimping on sun protection like I would in the past, but what I love about Kopari Sun Shield Body Glow SPF 50 is that it offers the exact opposite experience of the white, goopy sunscreen during my childhood.

It’s a lightweight clear gel formula that instantly feels hydrating when you apply it to the skin. The texture is reminiscent more of a gel moisturizer than an SPF, making the experience of putting it on pleasant. I love the radiant (not greasy) finish, which comes courtesy of sustainably-sourced mica, and makes my skin look even better after I put it on. I also love that it contains SPF 50, which is well above the American Academy of Dermatology’s recommendation of 30 or higher.

The formula is a chemical sunscreen containing ingredients avobenzone, homosalate, and octocrylene to protect the skin, but it also contains the mineral sunscreen ingredient titanium dioxide. The key difference between physical vs. chemical sunscreens is physical SPFs (aka mineral) physically block the sun’s UV rays from entering the skin, while chemical formulas soak into the skin and absorb the rays before converting it to heat and omitting it from the body.

It’s also packed with great skin-care ingredients like macadamia oil to help reduce irritation from UV rays, hibiscus oil for antioxidant protection, and vitamin E to calm skin and defend against environmental stressors. Meanwhile, avocado and coconut oils really pack in the hydration, which makes my skin all the more glowy.

How to Use the Kopari Sun Shield Body Glow SPF 50

It’s recommended you apply sunscreen about 15 minutes before going outside to give your skin sufficient time to absorb it. It’s also worth noting that you should be wearing sunscreen every day, year-round, whether you’re going outside or not — but especially if you’re going outdoors and the UV index is high.

Because the Kopari Sun Shield Body Glow SPF 50 blends in so nicely (it’s clear, after all) and absorbs quickly, it’s easy to apply for daily wear before getting dressed or after. I like to put it on exposed skin after I finish my makeup routine before heading out the door. It makes my skin look like I just applied a really nice, hydrating moisturizer — all dewy and moisturized.

What to Consider Before Trying the Kopari Sun Shield Body Glow SPF 50

The Kopari Sun Shield Body Glow SPF 50 is water resistant for 40 minutes — after that, you’ll need to reapply to keep your skin protected. With that in mind, anyone who’s frequently in and out of the water should possibly consider opting for a sunscreen that’s water-resistant for 80 minutes.

Where Is the Kopari Sun Shield Body Glow SPF 50 Available?
